Aliceson & David met at grand valley during Dave’s last semester. Aliceson was always studying really hard for her exams… However, Dave’s last semester… he never even bought a book.  So, on the day of Dave’s final exam he saw Aliceson bringing her book back to the bookstore and said “Hey girl, if you let me use your book for the next hour I will buy you a drink at the bar afterwards.” – what started as a quick study break turned into a great friendship, that developed into love.

An RSVP Events wedding, Aliceson & David used bright, elegant colors, paired with fun, unique, flowers that were provided by Hudsonville Floral. The couple devoured a delicious cake with a kiss provided by Mirabella Confections, then danced the night away at the JW Marriott downtown Grand Rapids.

We had so much fun with them, and wish them nothing but the absolute best!

Nate is a member of the Coastline team, so when he was ready to propose we on the team were all ready to help!  We came up with the idea to email Jess and tell her that we were shooting promotional video featuring Coastline couples, and we needed them to be there. It wasn’t long before she caught on to what was coming… Here’s the story from her perspective:

“I received an email from the guy who works with Nate doing video work… saying that he wanted to film a “couples video” with the Coastline crew and all their significant others.  I knew Nate would want our engagement filmed so I was 99% sure this was the setup.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I don’t do well with surprises and not knowing what the plan is so the week leading up to the engagement was torture for me.

On Saturday morning, Nate and I were awake, showered, and had breakfast before 9am.  We were both nervous wrecks but were able to enjoy those moments alone together, both knowing what was coming but with so much anticipation for the parts we couldn’t control.  Just before noon we drove to Holland State Beach where the couples video was to take place (also a big tip off because I grew up in Holland but Nate and I both live 40 minutes away in Grand Rapids where Coastline is based)  We walked up through the cameras, he stopped me just short of where I could see one of my friends sitting in a bench and said “Ok, I’m leaving you here now.  You’re going to have a great day and I’ll be seeing you later”.  My friend, Hannah was waiting with a letter to me from Nate.  It talked about one of our first dates there at that beach.  Hannah then drove me to a salon where my friend Angela was waiting for me.  We had our nails done and I got a massage to relax me a bit.  There I got my second letter which said he hoped I was relaxed and pampered and now she’d be taking me to a place we went for ice cream on our first date.

Keep in mind that my friend and I are being filmed this whole time.  When we got to the ice cream place, another friend was waiting for me.  Chelsea and I were able to talk and she asked me how I was feeling.  I was getting anxious to see Nate and know how this all ended.  All of this was on a strict timeline laid out by Nate so when 4pm struck, we set off to what would be my last location.  Christina met me for a beer at The Meanwhile, a bar that represents a large portion of the beginning of our relationship.  We would spend early evenings here getting to know each other and it’s also where I got to know most of Nate’s friends.  I got what was my final letter, talking about how I would be seeing him soon, at the place where we first met.

On our first date, on July 19th 2011, Nate and I met on a blind date at The Greenwell.  I remember he was wearing a sweater and it was 95 degrees.  He remembers that I seemed completely un-nervous and relaxed.  When Christina and I, camera-woman in tow, left The Meanwhile, I was blindfolded.  When we arrived and all the cameras were in place, they let me take off my blindfold and I saw all my closest friends and family forming an aisle that led to Nate standing with a box in his hands.  I yelled something about everyone there being liars as I walked towards him.  I only remember registering a few faces as I reached him and he dropped to his knee.

Neither of us remembered anything that was said until we reviewed the footage later but it ended in me shaking my head yes vigorously and him showing me what is now my favorite piece of jewelry ever owned.  We hugged with crying mamas and grandmas, I was over the moon to see Megan and Lydia, pieces of the family I lived with and have nannied for for nearly four years now! I hugged all my lying friends and thanked them for keeping their secrets and being there for me.  I feel now that all of them were part of my day in such a significant way.  These ladies have all held me, and known me for so many years.  They know every bit of me and were there to pass me along to Nate.  We went inside the restaurant and Nate’s dad said a beautiful toast to “the future Mr. and Mrs. Totten.” After the drinks and a dinner with just family to follow at Mangiamos where a sweet jazz singer dedicated a song to us.

I’m so incredibly thankful to the Coastline team for being there to film every moment of this day for us. And for my friends who came along for the journey, and for the family that was there to pave my way to my fiance!!”

This trailer had us here on the team in tears, and even some of the guys teared up when they were there to see Nate drop down on one knee. We are so excited, and we can’t wait to help with their big day this October!

Stevie and Dan had an adorable handmade, DIY, barn wedding at at Friendship Farm. With arrows as their theme, the tattooed duo had matching ink, the bride rocked cowgirl boots and a fabulous feather headband, and the guys wore matching converse. The couple used fresh flowers from the farmer’s market, set up fun yard games to be played, had an adorable rainbow wedding cake, and danced the night away.  The couple even had a surprise “outfit” change for their guests. Stevie and Dan were absolutely heartwarming, and their unique day was fabulous and a blast to shoot!

Here’s how the couple said they wanted their day to feel, “We are hoping to have a casual and fun wedding. Lots of smiles and love. It’s a wedding outdoors on a small farm. Nature is very important to us. We also have spent quite a bit of time on decor, making most everything ourselves.”

Kat and Chris had a warm love, that even cleared up the grey skies on their wedding day. Their beautiful personalities truly showed in their film and we are so excited to share every little detail with you.

With beautiful warm fall tones, and flowers by Dorothy’s Floral they had great decor!

The girls had an adorable 1940′s vibe, hair, make-up, outfit, red shoes, and all! Plus, with this WWII vibe, who can resist a handsome man in uniform like Chris?

They even had a cake made by  Bert’s Bakery which featured a piano and lyrics to one of their favorite songs, with a secret scrabble message underneath (that matched the card Kat gave Chris).

Kat wore a beautiful dress from Panache Bridal in Beverly Hills, and the sweetest birdcage veil, and of course her something blue, her shoes with fabulous feathers included!

How they met:

The first time we met was at a pool party in Hollywood for a mutual friend’s birthday. When Chris told Kat he was in the Navy Reserve, she assumed he would be headed overseas the next day and that a romance was strictly out of the question. Conversely, Chris was interested and willing, but he nonetheless convinced himself that nobody as gorgeous as her would ever take interest in him. We parted ways that night, thinking we’d never see each other again, only to cross paths at the same exact place a year later at a dinner party.

Kat was putting freshly-made cookies onto a plate when her friend said, “The surprise guest is here!” Kat turned around and, to her surprise, saw Chris in the doorway. She was stunned to see him again but didn’t want to look over-zealous. Chris was in town for a veterans’ writing workshop and decided to make the most of his night in LA by dropping in on a friend. Little did they know that their romance would be forged that night over a poker game. Chris lost the game, but won her heart.

Over the next few months, their relationship quickly grew and, by December, they were engaged at the top of the John Hancock Building in Chicago. See proposal video here!

You don’t usually hear from me, but I wanted to tell you about my amazing proposal experience!

When I was planning my proposal I knew I wanted Coastline’s involvement in capturing our moment, not only because they’re our friends, but because we’d cherish the video for the rest of our lives. They put great effort in planning out exactly where they could hide and still get fantastic shots. It certainly worked, she didn’t notice them until the end when they came out! They were like ninjas (okay they were ninjas); super professional and unobtrusive.

Alright enough talk of how awesome Coastline is, here’s our story from the perspective of my beautiful fiancee:

Our Engagement

As I understand it, he purchased my gorgeous ring right after Thanksgiving 2012. I was completely clueless, and have no idea how he kept it a secret for three months! He also had a plan in the works. He asked his employer and co-workers at Coastline Studios to film the proposal at Sparrows (where we went on our first date) and also planned to recreate our date by having a group of friends barge in again, like they had the first time. It was a strategically devised plan that included an interview with Jay beforehand, and the film crew meeting at Sparrows to map out where they would be set up.

On February 17th, 2013, Jay took me back to Sparrows for our anniversary date. It was very crowded when we got there, and he quickly suggested that we sit at the table near the front with the pretty flowers. He excused himself to the bathroom, and while he was gone, six of our friends came strolling in through the front door!

Jay appeared a moment later with a mic hooked to his shirt! I was really confused why he had a mic on, but decided I should just go along with it and see what happened.

He opened my gift and card, and then handed me his. This is what it said: “To my Sweet Pea with Love: this was our first date one year ago today; friends barging in included. And I can’t believe it’s been only one year and five days since I happened to be in the same room as you. When my only thought was, “Hey, she’s cute.” Now I think, “How blessed am I to have such a loving, beautiful, hilarious, and somehow even-more-ridiculously-cute-than-when-I-first-met-her Christian woman to call my own?” and the only thought that follows that is this moment here…”

He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and said, “Abigail Lael Hansen, will you marry me?” And of course, I said yes!

Needless to say it was incredible and I’m so glad to have it all captured and made into a film. So great to post it and have all of our friends and family tearing up over our proposal, we made so many people cry that week.

This video shows the post-production process we go through for each individual wedding we film, and it shows all the little steps we go through to make sure our couples will be able to remember their day in the most beautiful way possible. We pride ourselves in going above and beyond to polish our films, and to work together as a team to make
sure the best possible film goes out the door. We are excited to say that each film is personalized to represent every couple, no matter how different, and all those special details they had at their day.

We all really love our jobs, and do our best to save memories for beautiful couples, because we really care about each couple that decides to include us in one of the most Important days of their lives, and trusts us to create the film they will watch for years to come.

With a ton of dancing, even on the party bus, Joy and Ryan really did have so much fun. They has sparkly blue and soft white feathers, hydrangeas, and other fresh white flowers were provided by Designing Dreams, along with other icy elements provided by Events by I.Candy that really made the  Laketown Golf and Conference Center sparkle! And we can’t forget Joy’s beautiful, ruffled ballgown, which she found at  Pierre’s Bridal.

With a spectacular sparkler getaway, fabulous blue up-lighting, sparkly branches… oh, and did we mention the groom had an outfit change for the reception!? Just wait for it, it is to die for!

Place settings were done by RSVP Events and flowers were done by Beth Gumina. The bride’s fabulous lace dress is by Roma Sposa, and hair and make-up was provided by the lovely girls of Cheeky Strut Salon!
