Alexa Update

September 25th, 2007 by John under Family

So we just passed the one month mark on Saturday and people have been begging for more pictures sooo… here ya go!  To start off, here’s a fun little video I threw together of her 4th+ week.  PLEASE NOTE: this is a longer “home video” like video… and its definitely custom made for people who like to look and stare at babies… so if you’re looking for that high impact, fast-paced baby video … this is not the video for you. (and I won’t be offended if you don’t watch the whole thing) : ) But its Alexa… with a few fun moments and even a little smile in there a few times!

For the most part she’s been a great baby so far with only moments of inconsolable crying… which usually meant she was tired or gassy.  She tends to sleep through the night with 2 feedings, and a 6 to 7am wake up time for the 3rd feeding … which I usually do with a bottle to give Amy some extra sleep time.  The routine seems to be working fairly well, but we average 1 to 2 days a week where naps just don’t seem to happen, and/or she wakes up every hour during the night.  But 6 out 7 days and nights she’s pretty laid back.  She seems to be having longer awake times (without crying) which has been fun, and on her 4 week birthday she smiled at me for the first time!img_0875_1.jpg

Amy seems to be doing good and has found a routine as well… though most of it revolves around Alexa and how well she naps or doesn’t nap during the day.  Alexa definitely prefers to nap while being held, but the baby swing sometimes can double for that when we need a break.

By far my favorite times are when I hold her or rock her to sleep and she cuddles up in my arms and buries her face in my chest.  I know it won’t last long, so I am enjoying every day and NEVER say things like “I can’t wait until….” as I really just want to enjoy each day and not try and encourage her to get to the next stage.

Anyway that about sums it up!  Hope you liked the pictures and video.

5 Dresses to Trash

September 23rd, 2007 by John under Photoshoots, Trash The Dress

I was honored to be asked by Lisa Ruff from Elite Photo Design to film a jam-packed “Trash the Dress” (TTD) shoot today with 5 (yes five) brides/models.  My job was to capture the day on video and edit together a promo piece for Lisa to use for recruiting future TTD sessions.  While the video edit will take some time to complete, I do have a few pictures to show a sampling of the day.  Lisa was gracious enough to let me bring my digital camera along, and I managed to snag a few shots in between filming for the video.  Here are a few shots I thought turned out pretty nice (especially considering I was the video guy this time and focused mainly on that).  Hope you like em!

NOTE: these first few shots are in my new studio!

Kara

September 21st, 2007 by John under Photoshoots

OK, fun story here.  I was shooting a wedding in December and the bride and groom worked at Starbucks at that time… and as part of their reception they had their “Starbucks Friends” run a coffee bar.  Kara, one of the couple’s coffee friends, came over after the wedding we starting talking photography as she also is a photographer.  We joked about doing a shoot together sometime just for fun… and well, yesterday we did just that!  Here’s a few of my favorites… She’s really quite photogenic!  Thanks for the fun shoot Kara!

NEW STUDIO SPACE!

September 19th, 2007 by John under General

If you haven’t heard yet, I HAVE A NEW STUDIO!  I’m sharing it with Jen Kroll Photography and I got the keys today!  Its not totally finished yet but it should be by tomorrow.  Now all we have to do is get stuff to put in it!  We (Jen Kroll and I) plan to host our workshops in the space so if you want to learn photography and see my new digs, sign up here!

It’s located in the “Plant 2″ building at 401 Hall St SW and used to be an old Steelcase Factory.  If you are driving on 131 and are at the Hall exit, look West… the 4 story brick building right next to the highway is our studio!

I made a low quality short video using a cheap point and shoot camera’s “video recorder” panning the empty space.  Note the lamps being put up, and the floor being cleaned.  I found out the thermostat will be wired tomorrow, and the windows should also be finished sometime tomorrow as well.

My wife Amy, with her Interior Design Business did an absolutely fantastic job designing the space and I thought I’d post the floor plan for what “will be” not to far from now. It’s hard to conceptualize it all, but it will be a sweet space for sure.  I’ll be sure to post a Video Tour as soon as its fully furnished (hopefully sometime in October/November).
