Laura and Pete’s Highlight Video

March 24th, 2008 by John under Videography, Weddings

Yet another 2007 favorite was Pete and Laura’s wedding in October.  Here is their highlight video for the “Pre Ceremony” portion of the day.  Enjoy!

The First Dance

March 19th, 2008 by John under Videography, Weddings

So this is a first for me… a blog post showing the full length “long form” version of part of a wedding I filmed. I recently edited together the “first dance” from Brook and Trevor’s wedding and thought it would be fun to post it here. I know Brook and Trevor have been so patient with me in the editing process (video editing takes FOREVER)… and so I thought as a little gift to them I’d give them a little sneak peak here on my blog. I hope you like it guys!

Side note; I’ve also never done Black and White for an entire section of video like this before… but somehow it just seemed to fit this dance with the cool lighting, and lens flares. Speaking of which, the spot light was my idea, and the first time I’ve ever had a spot light at a wedding. I pitched the idea to Brook and Trevor the week of their wedding as a last minute addition, and they went for it! So this video also shows what cool lighting can do for a first dance! Of course I don’t own a spot light, so after renting this one I want to go out and buy one someday. : )

Lexi sees the Pacific Ocean

March 9th, 2008 by John under Family

It’s been an incredible week here in the Central Coast of California. The sun is shining, its warm (which is different from when the sun shines in Michigan in March)… and we’ve had such a relaxing time with our family out here. We spent about 4 days in the San Luis Obispo area in central California and stayed in a cute little place only a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean.

March is a great time to visit California because all the rain from January and February start to taper, and all the hills are a blanket of beautiful green. Unfortunately the green only lasts a short time, and then turns to brown from the summer heat… so if you want to visit California… go in March.

This is a shot from Cayucos where my brother and his family live. Believe it or not, this view is only a 5 minute walk from the driveway of their home. The “Island like” rock in the distance is Moro Bay, about a 5 to 8 minute drive from Cayucos.

Here is the highlight from one of our days in Cayucos … a trip to the beach! Amy bought some cute sunglasses for Lexi, and Kenya (Lexi’s 9 month old cousin) gave her this hat that Kenya had outgrown. A recipe for some photo cuteness. : )

On the way home I had to snap this creative campaign to help keep the beach clean…

Mindy’s Trash the Dress

March 5th, 2008 by John under Photoshoots, Trash The Dress

I’m so excited to be writing this post!!!  After working on these images since Saturday, I’ve finally finished editing some of my favorite images from an amazing trash the dress shoot I did with one of my brides from 2007.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m currently on a trip to California (my home state), and was able to connect with Mindy who got married in her home state of Michigan, but lives about 5 minutes away from my parents in California (how’s that for a small world).  Needless to say I’ve been e-mailing her since her wedding about doing a trash the dress session with her, and now that I’m finally out here… we made it happen!

We were going to get the dress wet, but couldn’t find any water that wasn’t freezing… nice though the weather is out here… but I did manage to get some AMAZING shots of Mindy… who I must say was simply stunning to photograph… and so easy to work with.  We had a great time, in and around the shoot… and here are some of the pictures from the TTD session.

We started out at place I used to ride my bike to when I was a kid… up in the hills about 3 miles from my parents house.

Then we drove to a nearby (but somewhat hidden) national park.  I say hidden, because it was buried at the end of a residential street, and easily missed.  Right off the bat we scored this awesome old VW bug (a favorite car of mine), as well as an old barn with all the fixin’s.

Deeper into the park was this cool cement remains from a building that used to be in the park area.
